Malindi MP Joins Parents in Protest, Calls for Kakuyuni High Principal Removal
Chaos erupted at Kakuyuni Boys Secondary School on Wednesday as parents, driven by deep frustration, stormed the institution.
Their primary demand: the immediate removal of the school principal.
Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi, spearheading the parental outcry, cited severe mismanagement and alarmingly poor performance in recent national examinations as the core issues.
Parents expressed acute concern over the principal’s alleged habit of frequently sending students home, significantly disrupting their education.
“Students, even day scholars, are constantly dismissed,” one parent lamented. “One day it’s fees, the next, hair, then lateness. This cycle prevents any real learning.”
MP Mnyazi revealed receiving numerous student complaints, all pointing towards the principal’s leadership. She assured parents of imminent change, confirming she had filed a formal complaint with the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), demanding a thorough investigation and the principal’s removal. “The community has rejected him,” she stated.
This incident mirrors a disturbing trend. In Uasin Gishu County, St. Martin Mafuta Secondary’s principal was assaulted following disastrous KCSE results. Similarly, at St Gabriel Isongo in Mumias East, unsatisfactory outcomes led to teacher transfers after parental attacks. Olympic Secondary in Nairobi also saw its principal assaulted over poor results.
These events underscore a growing wave of parental discontent, often targeted at school administrators. Education stakeholders stress the importance of collaborative problem-solving, yet the frustration persists, highlighting a systemic need for change.
