Why Silvanus Osoro Never Speaks in Parliament When Beatrice Elachi is Present
Majority Chief Whip Silvanus Osoro on Friday opened up about his deep personal connection with Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi, revealing a relationship that goes back to his childhood when he lived on the streets.
A Motherly Bond Beyond Politics
Osoro, the South Mugirango MP, spoke with heartfelt nostalgia, describing Elachi as more than just a parliamentary colleague—she is a mother figure to him. He credited her with changing the course of his life after the tragic loss of his parents.
“When I needed somebody to take the place of my mother, when I was getting married, Beatrice Elachi stood up and became my mother,” Osoro shared. “She has been a pillar all through, and even when we disagree, she takes charge.”
A Profound Influence on His Life
Elachi took Osoro off the streets and played a crucial role in nurturing him into the man he is today. This deep bond naturally demands his utmost respect and loyalty.
Her influence extends even to his conduct in Parliament. Osoro admitted that whenever Elachi is present during debates, he refrains from engaging in controversy.
“I get calls from Governor Johnson Sakaja telling me to tone down during debates, but he does not know the right button to push. If he asked Elachi, I wouldn’t speak; I would even walk away,” he said.
Standing with Elachi in Grief
Osoro made these remarks during the memorial service for Elachi’s son, Elvis Namenya, at the Holy Trinity Church in Kileleshwa. A gathering of MPs, family, friends, and leaders came together to honor Elvis’s memory and support Elachi in her time of loss.
Elvis, a final-year student at Africa Nazarene University, tragically lost his life in a road accident on March 25, 2025. Described as kind, generous, and hardworking, he was on the brink of a promising future, set to graduate in June.
A Mother’s Pain and Message of Faith
Elachi, speaking with visible grief, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support from her colleagues and the community. She emphasized the importance of faith, urging young people to seek God’s protection in their daily lives.
“As a family, we have embraced prayers. I want to urge our young people—before you leave home, always pray to God to protect you in everything you do,” she said.
She also highlighted the significance of open communication between children and their parents. Reflecting on her son’s tragic passing, she revealed that he died following a tire burst while driving.
“Elvis will always be my testimony. I encourage young people to keep their parents informed about their whereabouts. Even if you plan to handle a problem on your own, let them know, just so they are aware,” she advised.
