Kalonzo Pressures Ruto After Another Kenyan Officer’s Tragic Death in Haiti
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urgently appealed to President William Ruto, demanding the immediate withdrawal of Kenyan police officers from the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti.
This plea follows the tragic deaths of two Kenyan officers, highlighting the escalating risks and costs of the operation.
Musyoka argues that the Haiti mission has become excessively burdensome for Kenya. He emphasizes the necessity of retrieving the deployed officers and bringing them safely home.
“In the absence of a UN resolution complete with funding capability and whatever, we want our boys back because this is becoming too much,” he declared.
He contrasted the current Haiti deployment with previous peacekeeping efforts, notably the successful United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL). Musyoka pointed out that unlike the Haiti mission, past operations, such as UNAMSIL, concluded without significant Kenyan casualties.
“We have had peacekeeping missions abroad to Sierra Leon, we had one with General Mulinge, and he brought all our boys back, even when some of them were apprehended, he refused to return until all of them were released. We have not had cases of us losing men who have gone on a peacekeeping mission,” he stated.
The call for withdrawal intensifies following the recent deaths of two Kenyan police officers. Constable Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, 26, was fatally injured last month, and Benedict Kabiru was shot dead on March 24, 2025, during anti-gang operations.
Kenya deployed approximately 800 police officers to Haiti in June 2024, as part of the UN-approved MSS mission aimed at stabilizing the nation amidst rampant gang violence. The mission, initially authorized until October 2, 2025, now faces increased scrutiny due to the rising casualties.
