Gachagua Warns Mt Kenya Residents Against Ruto’s Promises
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned Mt Kenya residents against trusting President William Ruto’s promises ahead of his scheduled visit to the region next week. He accused the head of state of repeatedly deceiving Kenyans and using dishonesty as a political tool.
Ruto’s Lies Led to Fallout
Speaking in Naivasha, Nakuru County, on Saturday, March 29, Gachagua claimed that Ruto’s persistent lies made their working relationship untenable. He alleged that the president pressured him to mislead Kenyans, which ultimately led to their fallout.
“What has destroyed President Ruto’s government is lies; he is a liar, and that is the truth. He lies every time, and that is why we could not work together,” Gachagua stated.
Alleged Plan to Bribe Residents
As Ruto prepares to visit the Mt Kenya region, Gachagua alleged that senior government officials have devised a plan to distribute money to residents in exchange for their support. He urged locals to take the money but warned against bringing it into their homes.
“Even now, he is preparing to visit this region with sacks of money. He is coming to lie, but I want to tell you to prepare and receive the money, but do not take it home,” he cautioned.
Residents Urged to Demand Higher Payments
Gachagua encouraged locals to demand higher payments for their attendance at Ruto’s rallies, arguing that they were merely being used for political theatrics.
“Standing to listen to lies should be from Ksh3,000. Let us agree, and women who cheer up should be given Ksh10,000, and clapping should be charged Ksh2,000,” he quipped.
He further warned residents against investing the money or mixing it with their own, claiming it was cursed. Instead, he advised that it should only be spent in marketplaces or on settling debts.
“That money should not be taken home; it must be used in the marketplace because that money is cursed. It should not be mixed with the old cash,” he added.
Ruto’s Upcoming Tour
President Ruto is set to begin his Mt Kenya development tour in the first week of April following high-level consultations with regional leaders. His itinerary includes stops in Laikipia, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Nyeri, and Kiambu, concluding on April 5.
