Drama in Naivasha as Uniformed Officers Try to Halt Rigathi Gachagua’s Convoy
Tension in Naivasha as Police Attempt to Block Rigathi Gachagua’s Address
A dramatic standoff nearly unfolded in Naivasha after a group of heavily armed police officers attempted to prevent former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from addressing the public on the evening of Saturday, March 29.
The officers, equipped with clubs and teargas canisters, were seen struggling to disperse the growing crowd eager to listen to Gachagua.
Gachagua Takes on Ruto’s Administration
Speaking from a car sunroof in Mai Mahiu, Gachagua did not hold back in criticizing President William Ruto’s government. He accused the administration of deliberately deploying security forces and hired goons to disrupt his public engagements.
“I am informed that he has sent all formations of police officers here in Naivasha to attempt to block us from greeting the people. We will continue engaging the public despite these intimidations,” Gachagua declared.
Accusations of a Police State
Following the event, Gachagua took to social media, condemning his former boss for what he described as an attempt to turn Kenya into a police state aimed at silencing dissenting voices. He emphasized that Kenya operates under the rule of law and vowed that state law enforcers would not be weaponized for political suppression.
“Democracy cannot be replaced by dictatorship in Kenya. Anyone thinking they can intimidate the movement to reclaim our country using state machinery needs to rethink who Kenyans are and what they have done to bad leadership since independence,” he posted on X.
A New Political Party in the Works
In his statement, Gachagua also made a bold declaration—his intention to form a new political party. He revealed that the party would be officially launched in May and would field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general elections.
“Mai Mahiu residents and great patriots, thank you for showing up despite the heavy deployment of security personnel trying to suppress your freedom of association. We march on!” he affirmed.
