Omar Breaks Silence on Plans to Kick Gachagua Out of UDA Party
In a stunning political move, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Secretary General Hassan Omar has confirmed that the party is actively working to oust impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from his position within the party.
Speaking during a press conference in Eldoret on Monday, October 21, Omar revealed that Gachagua’s role as deputy leader of the UDA is now officially under review.
Omar explained that the UDA now recognizes Kithure Kindiki, Interior Cabinet Secretary, as the second-in-command, replacing Gachagua. He emphasized that Gachagua’s dismissal as Deputy President has triggered the need for a leadership change within the party.
“The spirit of our Constitution is that the person serving as the Deputy President should also serve as the Deputy Leader of the party. Therefore, if they are not the Deputy President, they will have to step aside and allow someone else to serve as the Deputy Leader of the party,” Omar asserted, underlining the party’s adherence to the constitutional structure.
According to Omar, UDA’s leadership structure is intertwined with the Kenyan Constitution, which directly connects the role of the Deputy President with that of the party’s deputy leadership. Gachagua, having lost his position as Deputy President, now finds himself on the verge of losing his party leadership role as well.
Omar did not mince words when addressing Gachagua’s impeachment and its impact on President William Ruto’s administration. He accused Gachagua of promoting tribalism and divisive politics, stating that these actions had hindered the President’s ability to govern effectively.
“Tribalism on top of tribalism, putting people into groups, and speaking about shares and traps had now left the President without the opportunity and space to work,” Omar remarked.
With Gachagua no longer in the equation, Omar expressed optimism that President Ruto’s leadership would become more inclusive and that his administration could finally focus on delivering campaign promises. “We want to give President William Ruto these three years to implement the promises he made,” Omar concluded.
