‘Mchele Babe’ Nabbed After Emptying Foreigner’s Pockets in Nairobi
Detectives in Kilimani, Nairobi have arrested a female suspect believed to be notorious for targeting unsuspecting revelers and drugging them before making off with their valuables.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed on Sunday that Consolata Nyangai was apprehended after an extensive investigation that began in November. The arrest came after a Chadian national reported losing a substantial amount of money and personal belongings to the woman following a night of drinking at local clubs.
According to the DCI, the foreigner had visited Gemini and Quiver’s clubs before heading to Spring Gardens Apartments with Nyangai. It is alleged that the victim was drugged by Nyangai, rendering him unconscious, allowing her to make off with a staggering Ksh.519,000 (in dollar notes), Ksh.10,000, a Samsung S20, and a Corn C105 phone.
The manhunt for Nyangai intensified, leading investigators to track her down at Hunters area in Kasarani, where the stolen phones were recovered. The victim later confirmed the phones were indeed his, providing crucial evidence against the suspect.
“Also notable around Consolata’s base was a newly purchased 75″ Samsung TV worth Ksh. 107,000 as per the receipts, and a Ramtons cooker worth Ksh. 55,000. The items, both which were purchased after the incident, are believed to be proceeds of crime,” the DCI said in a statement.
Further investigation uncovered two national identity cards bearing Nyangai’s image, but with different names—one Kenyan and one Ugandan—raising suspicions about her true identity.
Nyangai is currently being held at Kilimani Police Station and is set to be arraigned on Monday, November 18. Officers are continuing their probe into her background and the possible links to other crimes.
