Mp Salasya Blasts Raila for Undermining Parliament’s Oversight Role
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has launched a scathing critique of Azimio leader Raila Odinga, accusing him of sabotaging parliamentary oversight responsibilities.
Speaking at a public gathering in Kimilili on Saturday, November 16, Salasya criticized Raila for questioning MPs’ effectiveness in oversight while allegedly enabling defections that weaken legislative scrutiny. According to Salasya, Raila’s actions have directly undermined the role of opposition lawmakers.
“We must tell each other the truth. You cannot talk about issues to do with oversight when you are still giving your members on handover to the president to help in pushing agendas, then start accusing other MPs of failing in their legislative and oversight roles,” Salasya stated.

He accused Raila of compromising ODM legislators by facilitating their alignment with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government. This, he argued, weakened the opposition’s capacity to hold the administration accountable.
Salasya further questioned Raila’s leadership, citing his alleged backing of the Adani Group’s controversial bid to take over operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). He urged leaders to prioritize the public’s welfare over personal or corporate interests.
The youthful MP also voiced his opposition to the reintroduction of the Finance Bill 2024, which he believes has already caused significant harm. Salasya criticized the rushed implementation of policies like the university funding model and the Social Housing Agenda (SHA), which he claimed were poorly transitioned and fraught with challenges.
“We must look at the implications of any proposals introduced. They brought a new university funding model and it had problems. They brought SHA but because of improper transition, it has come along with various challenges. They want to return the Finance Bill 2024 that made our children die during protests through the backdoor. To our speaker, tell those MPs to honour the lives lost because of the bill,” he urged.
Salasya also hinted at a potential political realignment, revealing his intention to collaborate with former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa. The move signals potential shifts in alliances as leaders reposition themselves ahead of 2027.
