James Orengo Slams Raila Odinga for Aligning with President Ruto
Siaya Governor James Orengo has openly criticized his long-time ally, Raila Odinga, for what he sees as an ill-advised dalliance with President William Ruto.
Orengo made these remarks during a funeral service for a protestor in Alego, where he strongly condemned the move by some Azimio leaders to align themselves with the current administration.
Orengo did not mince his words as he addressed the mourners, expressing his disapproval of any collaboration with a government he holds responsible for the suffering and deaths of protestors.
“We cannot kill our people, and at the time when they are mourning, we are looking for offices. That cannot happen. We must first deal with injustice before we can deal with the questions that arise from that injustice,” Orengo declared passionately.
The Siaya Governor warned Raila against supporting President Ruto’s government, arguing that such a move contradicts the wishes of the Kenyan people. He also dismissed the notion that joining the broad-based cabinet proposed by Ruto would benefit Raila politically.
“And I want to say to those who are in a rush to join Ruto, that Ruto is a passing cloud, and I am saying that without a fear of contradiction,” Orengo emphasized.

Orengo’s critique extended to the government’s performance, asserting that President Ruto has lost the confidence of both the Kenyan populace and the international community.
He urged politicians to remain mindful of the families who have lost loved ones due to the political unrest and not to prioritize political alliances over the well-being of the citizens.
The remarks from Orengo come at a time when the Azimio coalition is experiencing internal strife over Raila’s perceived support for Ruto’s policies.
Raila Odinga, however, has stood firm, recently dismissing calls for President Ruto to step down. “If Ruto accepted to resign as demanded by a section of Kenyans, then the consequences would be detrimental for the nation,” Raila argued.
Despite Raila’s stance, other Azimio leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, have distanced themselves from any union with Ruto, highlighting the deepening divisions within the coalition.
