KMPDU Clarifies Health CS Nominee Deborah Mulongo Doctor’s Registration Status

In the wake of President William Ruto’s announcement of his Cabinet nominees, Health Cabinet Secretary nominee Deborah Mulongo Barasa found herself at the center of a social media storm.

Shortly after her nomination was made public, details about her professional registration status were widely circulated online, leading to speculation and misinformation.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) swiftly moved to address the rumors.

On Friday, July 19, KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah issued a statement clarifying the situation.

Atellah emphasized that Mulongo had not been deregistered as a doctor but had experienced a delay in updating her license. “Not deregistered she just delayed to update her license,” he wrote.

The KMPDU’s clarification aimed to quell the mounting concerns and restore confidence in Mulongo’s qualifications.

The union not only defended her professional standing but also expressed strong support for her nomination. They congratulated her and highlighted her potential to positively impact Kenya’s healthcare system.

Atellah’s statement underscored the union’s optimism about Mulongo’s ability to handle the responsibilities that come with the Health Cabinet Secretary position.

“We warmly welcome her to the dutiful responsibility of ensuring quality healthcare systems for all Kenyans, including decent work for all health workers,” he stated.

He further noted that Mulongo’s background as a young medical doctor and specialist physician positioned her well to address the challenges in the healthcare sector.

The KMPDU Secretary General expressed confidence in Mulongo’s capacity to settle into her new role and tackle pressing issues such as disputes surrounding medical internships and the constitutionality of the social health authority.

“We believe she will quickly settle to the enormous task of correcting the disputes around internship and the constitutionality of social health authority,” Atellah added.

This swift and supportive response from the KMPDU highlights the importance of accurate information and professional solidarity in the healthcare sector.

As Mulongo prepares to step into her new role, the backing of her peers will be crucial in her efforts to enhance the quality of healthcare for all Kenyans.
