Wycliffe Wangamati’s Appointment as PSSF Chairperson Cancelled

The government has officially called off the appointment of former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati as the Chairperson of the Public Service Superannuation Fund (PSSF) Board of Trustees.

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi announced this revocation in a gazette notice that was published on Friday. The decision is effective immediately.

“In exercise of the powers given under section 10(1)(a) of the Public Service Superannuation Scheme Act, along with section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning revokes the appointment of WYCLIFFE WAFULA WANGAMATI as Chairperson of the Public Service Superannuation Fund Board of Trustees, with effect from June 27, 2025,” the notice read.

Wangamati had just stepped into his role not long ago. He was appointed on June 8, 2024, by the previous Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u. His term was set to run for three years.

At the time of his appointment, the gazette notice stated: “The Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati to be the Chairperson of the Public Service Superannuation Fund Board of Trustees, for a period of three (3) years, effective from June 7, 2024.”

The reasons for the sudden cancellation haven’t been made public yet.

The Public Service Superannuation Fund is an important organization that manages pension funds for public servants in Kenya. The chairperson’s role is vital in overseeing the management of these funds, ensuring everything is transparent and accountable.

Wangamati, who previously held the position of the second Governor of Bungoma County, was anticipated to bring his leadership skills to the board. With his removal, the position is now open as the Treasury seeks to appoint someone new.
