Woman Found Dead After Going to Collect Rent from KDF Officer, Legs Tied

A family in Kayole, Soweto area, is grappling with immense grief after their loved one, Ann Wanjiku, was allegedly murdered by a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer who was also her tenant.

The 42-year-old caretaker, known affectionately as “Shiko” by her family, met her tragic end while performing her duties, collecting overdue rent.

The chain of harrowing events began on Wednesday, August 28, when Wanjiku’s sister, Joyce Wambui Ng’ang’a, grew concerned after noticing that her sister had not closed her business on time.

The irregularity sparked anxiety, leading Wambui to launch a search for her sister. During this search, she encountered a woman who claimed to have seen Wanjiku ascending the stairs to the KDF officer’s house to collect the KSh 30,000 in overdue rent.

“The woman seemingly implied that if Shiko has gone missing, then the officer is responsible,” Wambui recounted. The suspicion was further fueled by the woman’s insinuations, prompting Wanjiku’s family to report her disappearance to the Soweto police station. However, the family faced a frustrating delay, as the police instructed them to wait 24 hours before officially declaring Wanjiku missing.

Unwilling to stand idly by, Wambui reached out to her brother, who, along with another individual, took matters into their own hands. They decided to investigate the KDF officer’s house, breaking in through the ceiling in a desperate bid to find Wanjiku. What they discovered was the stuff of nightmares.

Inside the bathroom of the soldier’s house, they found Wanjiku’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling. A rope was tied around her neck, and shockingly, her legs were bound with nylon papers. The chilling scene suggested a level of calculated cruelty that left the family reeling.

“We found her legs tied using nylon papers. This officer seemed like he didn’t have any rush to leave the house because it seemed like the officer and her three children slept in the house after committing the crime,” Wanjiku’s brother said, his voice heavy with sorrow.

Now, the family is fervently seeking justice for Ann Wanjiku, demanding that those responsible for her brutal death be held accountable. Their plea for justice is not just for Wanjiku but also a call to protect others from falling victim to such heinous acts.
