William Ruto Avoids Announcing Church Donation Following Secrecy Directive
President William Ruto reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to supporting church development during his address at AIC Jericho on Sunday, March 23.
He emphasized his dedication to building both the nation and places of worship, stating that no opposition would hinder his mission.
“We will shame the devil; he cannot stop us from constructing our churches and developing our country. With our faith in God, we will achieve great things. I hold no grudges—only healthy competition that brings out the best in all of us,” Ruto declared.
Ruto also revealed his direct involvement in the church’s construction committee, asserting that he would participate without seeking approval. “I have spoken with Sam, who is overseeing the construction. I am now a member of your construction committee, and I’m not asking for anyone’s permission. As a committed member of AIC, I understand its procedures well. Ensure my inclusion in that committee. Let those opposed to this get angry if they wish, but we will build this church together,” he affirmed.
His stance aligns with his broader initiative to construct thousands of classrooms across Kenya, reinforcing his vision for national development.
Interestingly, Ruto refrained from publicly disclosing any financial donation to the church, a departure from his previous practices. This decision comes after Catholic bishops recently rejected his KSh 5.6 million contribution, prompting speculation that he is adhering to a directive from the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB).
The KCCB chairperson, Archbishop Maurice Muhatia, had previously emphasized that while church donations were welcome, they should be given discreetly rather than in publicized gestures.
Meanwhile, at the same event, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah defended the practice of open donations, arguing that he would continue contributing publicly despite criticism from certain quarters.
