Wamuchomba Calls Out Gachagua Over ‘Tribal Politics’
Gathoni Wamuchomba, Member of Parliament for Githunguri, has called on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to extend his advocacy beyond the Mount Kenya region, urging him to champion the needs of all Kenyans.
During a recent interview, Wamuchomba, a known ally of Gachagua, stressed the importance of demonstrating national leadership. She advised Gachagua to be more “sensitive” and inclusive towards diverse communities. “He must also dissociate himself from his campaigns with the mountain connotation because he has fought for the mountain enough,” she asserted.
Acknowledging Gachagua’s proven ability to effectively address the concerns of the Mount Kenya region, Wamuchomba now encourages him to turn his attention to other “forgotten” communities across the nation.
“He needs to be seen to be more accommodating to other communities,” she stated. “The same energy he has been using to fight for the mountain, he needs to use to advocate for people who are evicted in other areas and the forgotten communities of this country. If he really is a national leader, we need to see him fighting for other Kenyans.”
Wamuchomba believes that advocating for these broader communities will strengthen Gachagua’s push for lower taxation and other critical national issues.
Her appeal comes after a recent reshuffle in the National Assembly committees on March 5, 2025, where she and other Gachagua allies were removed from key leadership positions.
Wamuchomba was reassigned from the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee to the less influential Members’ Services Committee.
Other affected allies included Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, and Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo. Notably, Kiharu lawmaker Ndindi Nyoro was also removed from his position as chair of the National Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriations. Nyoro has remained silent on his stance regarding Gachagua.
Wamuchomba revealed that she has discussed this issue with Gachagua “many times.” “He doesn’t have to necessarily agree with me, but if it’s a fact, it is a fact,” she said. “Rigathi needs to realise that he has the mountain with him; he does not have to talk and punch again about the mountain.”
