Video: Parent Explains Decision to Keep Son at Endarasha Academy Despite Tragic Fire Incident
Paul Kung’u, a devoted parent of a student at Hillside Endarasha Academy, has expressed his unwavering decision not to transfer his son from the school, despite the devastating fire that claimed the lives of 21 pupils and left at least 27 others injured.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Thursday, September 5, sent shockwaves through the community and left many parents grappling with the safety of their children.
In a heartfelt interview with Nation, Kung’u shared his perspective on the situation, emphasizing that he sees the fire as an unfortunate accident rather than a reflection of the school’s safety measures.
“I believe the tragic incident was simply an accident, like any other,” he stated. For Kung’u, this belief has cemented his decision to keep his son at Endarasha Academy, rather than seeking another institution. “So, in my opinion, my son will keep attending school,” he affirmed, standing firm in his choice.
Kung’u’s resolve is further strengthened by his faith, which he hopes will also offer solace to other affected families. He urged parents who lost their children to hold on to their faith, believing that God will provide them with the strength to endure this difficult period. “I urge parents to continue trusting in God, as He will provide strength during these difficult times,” Kung’u said, offering words of comfort to those mourning their loss.
Reflecting on the day of the fire, Kung’u recounted the moment he learned about the incident. He was in Thika when he received a distressing call informing him of the tragedy at Hillside Endarasha Academy. Without hesitation, he rushed to the school, his heart heavy with concern for his son’s safety.
Upon arriving, Kung’u was relieved to find that his son was not only unharmed but had also played a heroic role in rescuing other students from the blaze. “I left Thika immediately and rushed to Hillside. I am happy that my son is okay and that he rescued other students from the fire. I am labeling him a hero. I am so happy,” he proudly recounted.
Kung’u’s story is one of faith, resilience, and a deep commitment to his son’s education, even in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
