Trump Issues Ultimatum to 30,000 Kenyans Facing Deportation
President Donald Trump has urged undocumented immigrants in the United States to use the new Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Home application to voluntarily leave the country. He stated that doing so could allow them to legally return in the future.
The United Nations reports that the U.S. has the largest number of Kenyan migrants, with 157,000 residing there. Of those, 30,000 are believed to be undocumented and face the risk of being permanently barred from the U.S.
The U.S. government is promoting the app as a way for these immigrants to leave before they are apprehended and forcibly removed.
The app requires immigrants to register their intent to leave, provide their name and address, upload a photo, and confirm they have sufficient funds for departure. “People in our county unlawfully can self-deport the easy way or they can get deported the hard way. My administration is launching the CBP Home app to give people in our country unlawfully an opportunity to leave now and self-deport voluntarily. If they do, they could potentially have the opportunity to return legally in the future,” Trump announced.
“If they do not avail themselves of this opportunity, then they will be found, they will be deported and they will never be admitted to the United States again,” the president revealed.
The U.S. government says self-deportation is the safest option for undocumented immigrants and helps conserve law enforcement resources.
It also saves taxpayer money and allows CBP and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to focus on dangerous individuals.
This policy will impact approximately 30,000 Kenyans living in the U.S. without proper documentation.
All undocumented immigrants are encouraged to download the app and register for voluntary departure, or they risk being detained and deported by ICE.
“Do it right and come back to our country in the future, do it wrong and you will never be back again,” Trump warned.
Since taking office in January, President Trump has pursued a policy of strict enforcement against undocumented immigrants.
During his campaign, he pledged to carry out mass deportations and remove undocumented immigrants from the U.S.
