Trans Nzoia Youths Warn of Raila Fallout After ODM Snubs Caleb Amisi for Key Role
A group of young people from Trans Nzoia, who support the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, have expressed their deep frustration with a recent party decision.
On Thursday, March 13th, supporters of Caleb Amisi, the Member of Parliament for Saboti, protested ODM’s selection for parliamentary leadership roles.
These visibly upset youths disrupted business activities in Kitale Town, located in Trans Nzoia County. They were protesting ODM’s choice to not give Amisi the chairmanship of the parliamentary accounts committee.
During the reorganization of parliamentary committees, Amisi was chosen as the vice-chairperson of the National Assembly Public Investments on Social Services Administration and Agriculture (PIC-SSAA) committee.
Emmanuel Wangwe, the Member of Parliament for Navakholo, was elected as the chairperson of this committee.
However, ODM supporters in Trans Nzoia were incensed because Raila Odinga’s party did not select Amisi to lead the powerful Public Accounts Committee (PAC). That position went to Tindi Mwale of Butere.
The protesting youths stated that Amisi has consistently worked to promote and strengthen the party’s presence in Trans Nzoia County.
Despite his loyalty to the party, the angry youths feel that Amisi’s dedication has been ignored by the Orange Party.
The residents have now made a strong statement: “No Caleb Amisi, No ODM in Trans Nzoia.”
They threatened to leave the party if ODM does not restore Amisi’s position.
“I suspect ODM is playing with our mind. If Raila Odinga does not want us in the broad-based government, then the ODM party should leave Trans Nzoia. They think it was easy to get one parliamentary seat in the county. Amisi has done a lot for the party, and we are saying No Amisi, No ODM,” one youth declared.
Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, the Saboti MP, Amisi, said his supporters took to the streets without any prior organization.
“Wenyewe tu not even organised. Nimestuka ata mimi by the love of the youth,” Amisi said, expressing his surprise at their spontaneous demonstration.
