Tabitha Keroche Reveals Ruto Summoned Senators Before Gachagua’s Impeachment
Nakuru Senator Tabitha Keroche has come forward with revelations about a private meeting President William Ruto held with selected senators prior to the impeachment trial of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In an exclusive interview with Inooro TV, Keroche disclosed that she, alongside other senators, was summoned for a two-hour meeting with the President.
The meeting, held days before the impeachment proceedings in the Senate, was reportedly focused on Ruto’s strained relationship with Gachagua. Keroche, who attended the meeting alongside Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, highlighted how the discussions were conducted individually.
“I remember my meeting was on Tuesday the other week, my meeting lasted 2 hours and no one else was there, and I know even for my colleagues they were summoned privately,” said Keroche, adding that the conversations were deeply personal and confidential.
The senator’s disclosure suggests that President Ruto might have been keen to gauge the sentiments of his key allies in the Mt. Kenya region. Ruto’s interactions with the senators appeared to reflect an effort to influence or sway their opinions ahead of the crucial impeachment vote.
But that wasn’t the end of the high-level engagements. According to Keroche, following their one-on-one meetings with Ruto, they were later summoned by the Interior Cabinet Secretary and Deputy President nominee, Kithure Kindiki.
“We were also summoned by the security CS, although some of my colleagues did not attend,” she stated. In the meeting, Kindiki allegedly told them he wasn’t pushing them to pick sides but hinted at the gravity of their decision.
“He confirmed the rift and told us he was not asking us to choose sides, but we needed to do so on our own. He added some decisions would bring consequences. But everyone had to make their own decision,” Keroche added, underscoring the pressure felt by senators to choose carefully.
The events leading up to the impeachment reflect the intricate political dynamics within the ruling administration, with power struggles and alliances coming to the forefront.
