Suicide Investigation Underway After Tanzanian USIU Student Falls from 14th Floor in Kasarani
A student tragically passed away after jumping from the 14th floor of an apartment building in the Kasarani area of Nairobi.
According to the police, they are investigating the incident as a possible suicide. The victim was a second-year Tanzanian student at the United States International University (USIU), and he had been living alone in the apartment at the time of his death.
Police confirmed that the student had left behind a suicide note for his parents, although the contents of the note have not been released.
The body was discovered by other tenants in the building on Wednesday morning, shortly after the incident. Nairobi’s police chief, Adamson Bungei, stated that investigations are ongoing. The police also moved the student’s body to the mortuary for further examination.
In a separate incident in Kirengero, Subukia, Nakuru County, a woman was found dead in what police believe to be a suicide. The body of 35-year-old Damaris Njeri was discovered hanging from rafters in her home after she had been missing for several hours. Her husband found her body after searching for her.
No signs of physical injury were found, and the exact motive for the incident remains unclear. The police have also moved her body to the mortuary for further investigation.
Suicide rates have been rising, with police reporting up to two cases every day. The government has acknowledged the growing concern and is working on measures to address the issue.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), factors contributing to suicide include unemployment, the death of loved ones, academic stress, financial problems, and a history of mental health issues like depression and substance abuse.
