Several Injured After School Bus Overturns Along Mombasa Road
Early Tuesday morning, a distressing incident occurred along Mombasa Road in the Sabaki area of Mavoko, Machakos County.
A school bus, transporting pupils, lost control and overturned on the rain-slicked road, leading to injuries among the children.
Witness accounts detail the sudden loss of control by the bus driver. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, prioritizing the safe extraction of the pupils from the damaged vehicle.
The injured were then promptly transported to various medical facilities within Athi River for urgent care.
While the precise number of pupils affected remains under investigation, it’s a relief to report that no fatalities were recorded in the early-morning mishap. Social media platforms quickly became a hub for shared videos, revealing the school bus lying on its side, surrounded by concerned bystanders.
The visual evidence highlighted the severity of the crash, showing the bus with extensive damage, including shattered side mirrors, windows, and a broken windscreen. The accident, which occurred around 7 am, triggered a significant traffic jam on the heavily trafficked Mombasa Road. Motorists found themselves trapped in the growing gridlock, with some attempting to navigate around the chaos.
The school bus has since been moved to the Athi River Police Station for thorough inspection. Police officers have initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident.
This Mavoko incident follows another tragic road accident in the Sobea area of Nakuru County, where two lives were lost, and several individuals sustained severe injuries. Reports indicate that a 14-seater matatu, operated by a well-known bus company, veered out of control and collided with a truck.
The Nakuru accident, which occurred around 5 am, involved a matatu carrying 10 passengers traveling from Salgaa to Nakuru Town. The injured were rushed to Nakuru Provincial Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were taken to the same facility for preservation, pending identification and post-mortem examinations.
