Senator Nyutu Accuses Ruto of Using Nyanza Visit to Sabotage Gachagua’s Position
Murgang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has stirred the political pot by alleging that the lavish reception given to President William Ruto during his recent Kisumu County tour was meticulously orchestrated to undermine Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Thursday, Nyutu suggested that the grandeur of Ruto’s visit was designed not only to flatter the region but also to deliberately mock Gachagua.
“As people from Mount Kenya, we have been keenly observing the political landscape, and it is apparent that there was a script intended to humiliate the Deputy President,” Nyutu claimed. He further emphasized his point by referencing statements made by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed during Ruto’s tour.
Nyutu criticized Wanga and Mohamed for what he perceived as condescending remarks directed at Gachagua. “If you listened to Gladys Wanga and Junet Mohamed, their comments seemed very calculated to undermine the Deputy President. The reference to ‘mountains’ in their speeches was, in my view, a deliberate attempt to belittle him,” Nyutu asserted.
He likened the current political dynamics to a shift from monogamy to polygamy, suggesting that the political environment has changed dramatically. “I would liken the happenings now to a marriage that was hitherto a monogamy which is now polygamous,” Nyutu said, implying a shift in political alliances and power structures.
Despite his criticisms, Nyutu affirmed that leaders from Mt Kenya will remain vigilant, closely monitoring the evolving political landscape. “We are really observing to see whether this will lead to the isolation of Mount Kenya region. However, we remain solidly behind William Ruto. We know that he entered into this alliance with consultation and agreement that it was necessary for an inclusive government,” he stated.
President Ruto’s visit to Nyanza followed the appointment of ODM leaders to key Cabinet positions, including John Mbadi (Treasury), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), Wycliffe Oparanya (MSMEs), and Hassan Joho (Mining).
This development comes amid ongoing tensions between Gachagua and opposition figures, with the Deputy President accusing certain individuals of plotting to sideline him politically.
“I saw my sister Governor Wanga getting into a car used by the president and addressing a gathering from the sunroof. She will slowly learn how to handle herself in such situations,” Gachagua remarked, highlighting his discontent with the perceived slight.
