Ruto ‘Identifies’ 2 CSs for Immediate Sack
President William Ruto is reportedly planning a significant reshuffle of his Cabinet to bolster his re-election campaign for 2027.
According to sources cited by The Standard, Ruto is dissatisfied with several Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) who have failed to effectively perform their duties and communicate the government’s policies and successes.
Insiders reveal that Ruto is determined to assemble a team capable of effectively mobilizing support for him in the next election. This reshuffle could happen any time now or early next year.
Ruto chaired the final Cabinet meeting of the year on December 17. An official group photo taken after the meeting is speculated to serve as a record in the event of a reshuffle.
“The President is very keen to ensure he tames incompetence in his government and the changes should come very soon. He could start 2025 on a new slate,” a source informed The Standard.
Last month, Ruto introduced performance contracts for the CSs, warning that those not meeting expectations would face consequences. If the reshuffle proceeds, the National Assembly will be required to interrupt its break to vet and approve new nominees.
This move would come just four months after Ruto reconstituted his Cabinet in response to youth-led unrest, integrating officials from the opposition ODM party.
