Ruto Eyes Murkomen, Chirchir for Interior Role Amid Adani Controversy
Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru, popularly known as Mejja Donk, has stirred political debate after revealing that President William Ruto might appoint either Kipchumba Murkomen or Davis Chirchir to the Interior Ministry.
Speaking on Sunday, November 24, during a church service at AIPCA Kangari in Murang’a County, Gathiru claimed to have obtained credible information about the potential Cabinet reshuffle.
According to the lawmaker, the two cabinet secretaries, currently heading the Transport and Energy dockets, played pivotal roles in bringing the controversial Indian conglomerate Adani Group to Kenya.
“Those two ministers who were in the Energy and Transport dockets, they are the ones who signed with Adani, saying that the company was good and therefore could be sold for the airport. Today, I have information that one of them is lined up for the Ministry of Interior job,” Gathiru disclosed.
The MP alleged that this move is part of a broader plan to facilitate Adani’s return to the Kenyan market. “They want to get one of those ministers who brought Adani to the Ministry of Interior so that when Adani makes a comeback, he can be well hidden,” he added.
While urging President Ruto to exercise caution, Gathiru called for the appointment of a candidate with a clean record. “Please, if we are being given a new Interior CS, we demand that we be given an individual with a past clean record. Those with questionable pasts should stay aside,” he emphasized.
This revelation comes amid widespread speculation over the Interior docket, currently held by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi alongside other key portfolios. On Friday, former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe received blessings from the Kikuyu Council of Elders in Nyeri, positioning him as a strong contender for the role.
“We have confidence in Mutahi Kagwe’s ability to lead and serve our people effectively. His appointment would not only rectify the current lack of representation from Nyeri but also ensure our interests are addressed at the national level,” an elder noted.
As political circles buzz with potential Cabinet changes, the alleged Adani connection continues to raise eyebrows, intensifying public scrutiny over key appointments in Ruto’s administration.
