Rigathi Gachagua Reveals His Comments Pushed Ruto to Admit Abductions
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that his public remarks influenced President William Ruto to acknowledge ongoing abductions in Kenya.
Speaking in Kakamega County on Sunday, December 29, Gachagua linked Ruto’s admission to his recent revelation about a suspicious building in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), where victims of these kidnappings were allegedly held.
According to Gachagua, his disclosure included details about a 21-floor building and an individual named Abel, reportedly tied to a powerful government figure. He suggested these revelations compelled Ruto to address the issue.
“I feel, though I’m not entirely sure, that the President’s decision to admit the existence of abductions and pledge to end them came after my statement. We are getting closer to uncovering the truth,” Gachagua stated.
Before his comments on December 28, Gachagua said Ruto had consistently denied the existence of abductions. “The President said at least five times that no abductions were happening in the country. Now he’s changed his stance and promised to stop them,” Gachagua remarked.
Ruto addressed the matter publicly during the Homa Bay Governor’s Cup on December 27, where former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was also present. Ruto pledged that his government would work to end these kidnappings.
“As a government, we will play our role to ensure the issue of abductions ends. Our youth deserve to live peacefully and contribute to moving the country forward,” Ruto affirmed.
Gachagua, however, questioned the government’s sincerity, labeling the administration as deceptive. “If the President says he’ll stop abductions, who has been behind them? Do you really trust what this government says? They are no longer credible,” he asserted.
He defended his decision not to disclose the exact location of the building, saying it was to protect innocent businesspeople operating there. “Revealing its name could endanger the building and its occupants. I’m giving the government time to dismantle the unit working from the 21st floor,” Gachagua explained.
Despite Ruto’s assurances, Gachagua criticized him for inaction, noting that victims remained unaccounted for. “It’s been nearly 64 hours since the President spoke, yet the abducted individuals are still missing. Let them reunite with their families for the New Year. Order their release,” he urged.
