Ranking of Top 10 Best Performing Governors Revealed by Politrack Africa
Politrack Africa has unveiled its mid-term rankings of Kenya’s best-performing governors, shedding light on leadership dynamics across the 47 counties.
This evaluation, termed the “Most Transformative Governor of 2024” rating, assessed governance based on public satisfaction, compliance with county planning laws, and effective revenue collection systems.
Topping the list was Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa with an impressive 76.5%, followed by Tharaka Nithi’s Governor Muthomi Njuki at 75.1%. Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntuntu secured third place with 73.2%, while Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi took fourth at 70.7%.
Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga earned the fifth spot with a 68.9% rating, slightly ahead of Nandi Governor Stephen Sang at 67.5%. Meru’s Governor Kawira Mwangaza ranked seventh at 68.2%, maintaining a strong showing despite controversies surrounding her tenure.
Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo (66.2%), Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan (65.4%), and Siaya’s James Orengo (63.8%) rounded out the top ten.
- Fernandes Barasa (Kakamega County) – 76.5%

- Patrick Ole Ntuntu (Narok County) – 73.2%
- Ahmed Abdullahi (Wajir County) – 70.7%
- Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay County) – 68.9%

Politrack Africa noted, “The mean approval rating stood at 55.8%, suggesting substantial room for improvement for most governors. Political approval ratings tend to decline over time, making it a challenge for leaders to sustain or improve their standing.”
The survey incorporated 3,211 respondents alongside data from the Auditor General, the Office of the Controller of Budget, and community-based quotas. It focused on transparency, citizen engagement, and service delivery as key metrics.
“Approximately half of the governors with ratings above 50% have a favourable re-election chance, while the rest must strategize to regain public trust,” Politrack Africa revealed.
The survey emphasized the need for enhanced transparency and public communication. County governments were urged to foster trust through better governance, while the national government was called to offer targeted support to struggling counties.
Politrack Africa funded the study independently to maintain impartiality, providing an accurate snapshot of governance trends at the county level.
