President Ruto Tears Into CS Muturi Over Alleged Incompetence
President William Ruto has publicly criticized Justin Muturi, the current Public Service Cabinet Secretary and former Attorney General, questioning his competence.
During an Iftar session at State House, Nairobi, Ruto addressed the Muslim community, expressing his dissatisfaction with Muturi’s handling of legal matters.
Specifically, Ruto cited the delay in establishing the Waqf, a crucial charitable endowment, as evidence of Muturi’s alleged incompetence.
“On Waqf, I agree with you; it has taken too long. There is no reason for the delay,” Ruto stated. He then added, “I had a problem with the AG who was there. He was fairly incompetent.”
Ruto assured the community that under the new Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor, the government would promptly resolve the Waqf issue. He emphasized his confidence in Oduor’s abilities.
The President also committed to addressing broader concerns raised by the Muslim leaders, including the integration of religious and formal education.
This public rebuke followed appeals from Muslim leaders who sought Ruto’s intervention regarding the Waqf’s delayed establishment.
Adding complexity to the situation, Muturi has been a vocal critic of Ruto’s administration, notably addressing alleged government inaction on abduction cases.
Despite speculation, Muturi has dismissed any plans to resign, insisting on his commitment to government accountability.
“Why would I resign for saying the truth? I must speak the truth; if there is a mistake, I must come out and defend Kenyans,” Muturi affirmed.
He has made it clear that his focus is on ensuring transparency and addressing critical issues, rather than stepping down.
Ruto’s strong words highlight a significant rift within his administration, setting the stage for potential further developments.
