President Ruto Consoles Family of Blogger Albert Ojwang, Donates Ksh2 Million
President William Ruto took the time to personally reach out to the family of the late teacher Albert Ojwang, extending his heartfelt condolences and contributing Ksh2 million to help them through this tough period.
On Tuesday, June 16, Ojwang’s father shared that the President had called him the week before to convey his sympathy. The grieving father, who resides in Homa Bay, expressed how deeply moved he was by the President’s kind gesture and emotional support.
“I truly appreciate President Ruto for treating my late son Albert like one of his own,” he said. “Many people have passed away, but he chose to personally reach out and share in our pain.”
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who was also at the event, confirmed that she had indeed made the phone call. She shared that she played a role in connecting the President with Ojwang’s father and was given the responsibility of delivering the Ksh2 million donation on Ruto’s behalf.
“The President told me to personally pass on his message of condolence and deliver the money to the family,” Governor Wanga said. “He spoke as a parent who understands this pain.”

Wanga further revealed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga also called Ojwang’s father from abroad to send his condolences.
“Raila is a respected elder in our community, and he too reached out to offer his support,” the father added.
In a heartfelt gesture, Governor Wanga has committed to building a two-bedroom house valued at Ksh1.5 million for Ojwang’s father, in addition to her donation. She shared that the late teacher had intended to construct the house himself before his tragic passing.
Albert Ojwang was taken into custody after Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat, lodged a complaint regarding posts he made on social media. Sadly, Ojwang died while in custody at the Central Police Station. In response, authorities have initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.
Amid rising public outrage and concern over the situation, DIG Lagat has chosen to step aside temporarily to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
“In full awareness of my responsibilities, and in light of the ongoing probe into the tragic death of Mr. Albert Ojwang, I have chosen to temporarily step down from my role,” Lagat stated. “Until the investigation is complete, my deputy will handle the duties of my office.”
