Police Detain Driver Over Deadly Crash in President Ruto’s Motorcade as Victim Identified
A driver involved in the motorcade of President William Ruto has been taken into custody by police after a tragic accident on Ngong Road, which resulted in the death of a foreign citizen on Thursday.
Law enforcement sources speaking with Citizen TV confirmed the arrest. The driver, whose name has not been made public, was subsequently released on bond, with a court appearance pending.
The government vehicle involved in the collision has been taken to Kilimani Police Station for a thorough examination, as officials are actively gathering and documenting evidence.
The deceased has been identified by police as Edgar Charles Frederick, a 79-year-old citizen of the United Kingdom. His remains have been moved to Lee Funeral Home, where an autopsy will be conducted.
According to reports, Frederick was struck by the motorcade as he attempted to cross the road near Adams Arcade.
Witnesses present at the scene stated that the foreign national had a hearing impairment and did not hear the warnings shouted by a traffic officer who was attempting to clear the road.
In the aftermath of the incident, the National Police Service (NPS) has initiated an investigation.
The NPS also issued a public statement, “The National Police Service urges motorists, pedestrians, and all other road users to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent accidents.” They are calling upon all road users to be vigilant and follow all traffic regulations.
