Outrage as MP Reveals Vietnam’s Alleged Response to Kenya’s Plea for Nduta’s Pardon
The Vietnamese government has reportedly issued a strong response to Kenya’s plea for clemency for Margaret Nduta, who faces execution for drug smuggling.
According to a statement shared by Gatundu North Member of Parliament Elijah Njoroge Kururia, Vietnamese authorities emphasized that their stringent laws against drugs and corruption apply equally to all offenders, regardless of their nationality.
This alleged response followed claims by the lawmaker that President William Ruto had contacted Vietnam and was awaiting their feedback.
“We understand your sympathy for your citizen. However, our stance and laws on drugs and corruption are severe. They are fully enforced for everyone who breaks them, including our own Vietnamese citizens. As the leader of Vietnam, I do not interfere when courts sentence even Vietnamese drug dealers. This is not about citizenship; it is about protecting our children from deadly substances,” the statement reportedly read.
The alleged statement also questioned Kenya’s handling of similar cases, asking, “How many Vietnamese citizens arrested in Kenya have been pardoned?”
Nduta, from Murang’a, was sentenced after being convicted of transporting two kilograms of drugs into the country, which has strict drug-related laws. The response comes as Kenyan leaders, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, urge Ruto to intervene and negotiate Nduta’s release.
Kenyans have reacted with skepticism to the MP’s sharing of this information before official government communication.
John Cheruyot advised, “Wait for official communication from relevant authorities!”
Sur Dennis Blessed stated, “I don’t believe this is their reply. I just don’t.”
Ndung’u Wa Kamau Na-Njoki accused the MP of fabricating the statement to protect Ruto, saying, “This is your handwriting, it’s you who has authored this… you are just trying to sanitize Ruto because he has been non-committal on the issue of Nduta. If this government has been killing the young generation, we are sure it couldn’t have bothered to have her repatriated to Kenya and tried here.”
Catherine Kiuna expressed hope, “Our God is bigger despite the law.”
King Ontita questioned the lack of official communication, “The president always posts all telephone conversations. Why hasn’t he posted this one? Meaning he has not intervened.”
Bonnie Adventure ke asserted, “The government cannot speak through a mere MP. Kururia is just playing politics to sanitize Ruto’s name.”
Annilee Sam suggested, “That’s just a coverup to show us the government tried nothing like that.”
Carolyne Adhiambo concluded, “Hapa ni maombi tuu Mungu atafungua njia (Here, only prayers, God will open a way).”
