ODM’s Jared Odoyo Okelo Vows to Back All Ruto’s Legislation Without Hesitation
Nyando MP Jared Odoyo Okelo has announced his full support for President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government, pledging to endorse all government-proposed laws without hesitation.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd, Okelo, who was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, emphasized his intention to set aside party differences for the sake of collaboration. He openly dismissed potential criticism, stating he is prepared to “close his eyes” and focus on supporting the administration.
“As MPs, we are involved in various responsibilities, including crafting and approving laws for the nation. Moving forward, I will support every government-backed Bill. If some label me a sycophant, so be it. I am ready to back initiatives proposed by the experts we have entrusted to the President,” Okelo stated during his address.
The legislator credited his decision to President Ruto’s recent move to include ODM members in his Cabinet. This reshuffle, which occurred amidst widespread anti-government protests in June, saw allies of ODM leader Raila Odinga take up influential positions in Ruto’s administration.
Okelo referred to these appointees as “experts” whose expertise would guide the creation of impactful legislation. He further reasoned that rejecting Bills crafted by individuals from his party, now part of the government, would defy both logic and principle.
“As Parliament resumes in February, I want to clarify that I will not oppose any Bills from President Ruto’s administration. By appointing our experts, he has shown a collaborative spirit, and it would be illogical for me to vote against their contributions,” the Nyando MP elaborated.
