ODM Eyes 10 PS Positions in Ruto’s Government PS Shake-Up
The political landscape is heating up again as ODM leader Raila Odinga reportedly eyes 10 Principal Secretary (PS) slots in the anticipated government reshuffle.
The reshuffle, expected to affect all state departments, comes months after President William Ruto reorganized his Cabinet, signaling further adjustments within his administration.
According to The Star, the reshuffle could reduce the total PS positions from 51 to 36, as some slots may be merged into new roles. The Public Service Commission (PSC) officially advertised the vacancies on November 20, with prospective candidates given until December 4 to apply.
“The PSC cannot advertise for just one PS post without the president’s approval. The impending purge is evident,” a government insider told The Star, underscoring the high-level planning behind this shakeup.
This development follows July’s Executive restructuring, where five of Raila’s allies secured Cabinet Secretary positions. If his camp clinches 10 PS slots, it would mark a significant win for the ODM leader, further solidifying his influence within the Ruto regime.
However, not all stakeholders are expected to fare well. Insiders believe individuals linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua may find themselves sidelined in this reshuffle.
Conversely, some PSs are tipped to retain their positions due to their performance and connections. Among those rumored to stay are Korir Sing’oei (Diaspora and Foreign Affairs) and Raymond Omollo (Interior), whose tenures have reportedly earned them favor with the current administration.
The reshuffle also stirs speculation that President Ruto could bring back allies of his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, to bolster political inclusivity and regional balance.
In its job advertisement, the PSC clarified that the positions opened up due to reassignments within senior ranks. With 36 positions up for grabs, the reshuffle will test the political maneuvers of Raila, Ruto, and other key players as they seek to shape the government’s next phase.
