ODM Clears Air on Raila Demanding DIG Lagat’s Reinstatement
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has firmly rejected claims that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga called for the reinstatement of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat.
This comes after ODM flagged a viral social media post on Tuesday morning, which falsely suggested that their party leader had urged President William Ruto to step in and restore Lagat’s position.
The post, labeled as ‘fake’ by the ODM, alleged that Odinga defended Lagat, arguing that he had merely filed a legitimate legal complaint after being defamed.
According to this misleading post, Raila supposedly stated that Lagat had done nothing wrong and that both the Head of State and Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, should act swiftly to ensure Lagat returns to his duties.
“Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat did nothing wrong. He only exercised his civic duty to make a legal complaint after he was defamed,” the flagged post read in part.
It went on to add, “I call upon the president and the inspector general of police to reinstate him, as no investigation has pointed out to him. Real criminals in Albert Ojwang’s case should be brought to book.”

ODM found itself needing to clear the air after a segment of Kenyans raised concerns about a recent post, with some social media users urging Odinga’s party to clarify the situation.
This clarification comes on the heels of a similar incident where the party had to respond to claims that the former Prime Minister had asked young people to call off protests scheduled for Tuesday, June 17.
In a short statement released on Monday, June 16, ODM addressed a viral social media post that suggested Odinga had warned youths against being drawn into violence following Albert Ojwang’s death.
A misleading post claimed that Raila had a chat with President Ruto, who supposedly assured him that steps were being taken to hold all those responsible for the horrific crime accountable.
The shocking death of Albert Ojwang while in police custody has sparked outrage among Kenyans over the past ten days, with many demanding justice for him.
In a recent development, President William Ruto spoke on the phone with Albert’s father, Meshack Ojwang, and offered Ksh2 million to help support the grieving family.
