Multiple Feared Dead, Several Injured in Tragic Road Crash Near Two Rivers Mall
A devastating road accident near Two Rivers Mall in Kiambu County has resulted in fatalities and serious injuries, prompting urgent calls for enhanced road safety.
Eyewitness accounts detail a harrowing scene on the Ruaka-Githogoro highway around 8 am on Friday. A 14-seater matatu, traveling at high speed from Ruaka towards Kiambu Town, reportedly lost control. This sudden loss of control caused the vehicle to veer off the road, violently colliding with a billboard before plunging into a ditch.
Social media footage depicted the aftermath: a mangled matatu with shattered windows, torn seats, and flattened tires. Debris scattered across the roadway, and locals desperately worked to extract trapped passengers.
Emergency services swiftly transported the injured to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. Police arrived to investigate the scene.
This incident follows a recent tragedy on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, where 13 lives were lost in a collision between a trailer and another 14-seater matatu. That accident, occurring on March 14 in the Migaa area, was attributed to brake failure in the trailer, leading to a head-on collision.
The Migaa accident, which happened around 7 am, caused severe traffic disruptions, forcing drivers to seek alternative routes. The visuals of the Migaa crash showed the severe destruction of the matatu, with rescue teams struggling to recover the deceased.
The recurring nature of these severe accidents highlights the urgent need for stricter road safety measures and enforcement to prevent further loss of life.
