Mithika Linturi Alleges CS Ruku Received Ksh5.2 Million to Support Impeachment Motion
Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has alleged that Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku was paid Ksh5.2 million to orchestrate his impeachment while serving as Mbeere North MP.
In an explosive interview with Weru TV on Sunday, April 21, Linturi accused Ruku of betrayal, despite both leaders hailing from the same region. He referred to Ruku as a “gun for hire” and someone who cannot be trusted.
According to Linturi, the push for his ouster was politically motivated and not linked to poor performance. He claimed Ruku received $40,000—approximately Ksh5.2 million—to lead the charge against him.
“Ruku cannot be trusted. He has no integrity. He accepted money to sponsor my impeachment. You don’t kill your brother to inherit his wife,” Linturi stated.
Linturi also alleged that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua intervened at one point by summoning Ruku. Gachagua reportedly confronted him and demanded an explanation for his actions, later showing Linturi a list with 83 names allegedly involved in the plot.
“Gachagua summoned Ruku and took a list from him. Then he called me and showed me the list. He told me, ‘Look at your friends,’” Linturi recalled.
The former minister further criticized the appointment of Ruku as a replacement for Justin Muturi, the former Public Service CS. He argued that the move was merely symbolic and lacked substance in terms of public service.
“You cannot compare the history and experience of Muturi with that of Ruku. The appointment was not for the people,” Linturi said.
Touching on President William Ruto’s recent cabinet reshuffles, Linturi expressed frustration with the perceived lack of strong leadership from the Mt. Kenya region. He claimed many of the leaders are not bold enough to speak up for their communities.
“Some leaders are only called to fill a gap. They’re given goodies and told to say, ‘Yes, sir.’ Those are not leaders who truly represent us,” he argued.
Addressing his own removal from office, Linturi maintained that he served diligently and that his dismissal had nothing to do with performance.
“I wasn’t removed for underperformance. I believe I did well. Even my harshest critics admitted I performed. That should tell you something,” he insisted.
Linturi also dismissed speculation about his possible return to the Kenya Kwanza administration. He noted that many current Cabinet Secretaries lack decision-making power and often operate as figureheads.
“Cabinet Secretaries have no authority. They don’t even sign off on appointments. Their names are just printed in the gazette. It’s all predetermined,” he claimed.
Through his remarks, Linturi paints a troubling picture of internal sabotage, betrayal, and the hollow nature of some leadership appointments in the current government. His revelations, if true, raise questions about the integrity and independence of political processes within the ruling coalition.
