Miguna Slams Okiya Omtatah’s 2027 Presidential Bid, Labels it a Ruto Strategy
Lawyer Miguna Miguna’s recent online post criticizing Okiya Omtatah did not sit well with the senator’s supporters. Miguna shared a lengthy message on X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed his disapproval of Omtatah’s presidential ambitions.
In the post, Miguna suggested that Omtatah was secretly collaborating with President William Ruto.
Miguna accused Omtatah of using his 2027 presidential campaign to divert attention from Ruto’s alleged wrongdoings, allowing people to ignore these issues until after the next election. “I am calling Okiya Omtatah out. If he is not Ruto’s agent, I dare him to stop his premature 2027 campaign and focus on a movement to remove Ruto from power now—not in 2027,” Miguna said in his post.
The lawyer further claimed that any person planning to run for president in 2027 while Ruto controls the police, the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and the judiciary is essentially a decoy or a Ruto supporter.
Miguna challenged Omtatah to confront Ruto directly instead of merely pursuing court cases against government officials. However, Miguna’s remarks sparked backlash from many Kenyans. Numerous people responded to his post, defending Omtatah’s credibility and record. They pointed out that Omtatah has consistently fought for the rights of ordinary citizens by challenging oppressive government policies through lawsuits.
“My friend Miguna, we have history. There’s a clear consistency with Okiya Omtatah, which you lack. Let it be known that the character of a man doesn’t change overnight,” one user, Nelson Mapema, responded. Others argued that Omtatah is one of the most trustworthy politicians in Kenya, free from corruption and other administration issues.
Some critics also accused Miguna of constantly arguing online without taking action on the ground. “Until the day you return to Kenya, you will forever be a keyboard warrior with good English. Omtatah is here. You are not,” one user fired back at Miguna.

Despite the backlash, Miguna stood by his statements and continued to defend his position, even resorting to insults in some of his replies.
Omtatah, for his part, had hinted at running for president last month. He announced that he was forming a 10-member committee to assess his chances and determine the best approach to tackling the country’s challenges.
