While Sports CS Murkomen praises Ruto's achievements in healthcare, housing, and education, critics argue the government has deepened economic woes and institutionalised corruption.

Miguna, Mutunga Slam Murkomen Over Praise for Ruto’s Government

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has praised President William Ruto’s government for steering Kenya onto a path of growth and development since assuming office.

Speaking during the Kapkugo Cultural Festival in Bungoma County on Saturday, December 7, Murkomen commended Ruto’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises. He noted that the president has achieved substantial progress despite facing numerous challenges. Murkomen highlighted successes in healthcare, affordable housing, the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), and efforts to lower the cost of living.

“President William Ruto has done a fantastic job in two years, even in difficult circumstances. I have never seen a president so meticulous in ticking off every item in his manifesto,” Murkomen stated.

The Cabinet Secretary remarked that the country is now in a more stable position compared to before the Kenya Kwanza government took power. He encouraged Kenyans to assess the government based on its manifesto, insisting that the administration is open to being held accountable for its commitments.

However, Murkomen also pointed out areas he felt the president may have made missteps. He criticised the decision to include leaders from the opposition ODM party in the Cabinet and Ruto’s backing of Raila Odinga for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

“The only mistake he has made is extending a hand of brotherhood and friendship to the opposition leaders and agreeing to work with Azimio leader Raila Odinga. In that, he is guilty as charged. I believe that kind of friendship will not end with Raila, the president will reach out to all people in the country. Even our brother Kalonzo Musyoka is welcome to work with us,” he added.

I reiterate that H.E President @WilliamsRuto has done a lot in the last two years, diligently delivering on his manifesto. The cost of living has considerably come down and the economy is now on a growth trajectory. pic.twitter.com/Wygtu8sv28

Despite Murkomen’s optimism, his remarks were met with strong criticism from notable public figures.

Lawyer Miguna Miguna accused the Ruto administration of worsening the country’s economic situation. He claimed that corruption and selfish governance have left many Kenyans impoverished and struggling with hunger.

“The only economy that has improved in the last two years is your net worth—courtesy of our taxes. Ruto has failed pathetically. 56 million Kenyans are far worse off than when he took power. He lies worse than a firefly and has institutionalised grand corruption,” Miguna asserted.

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga also dismissed Murkomen’s claims as misleading. He criticised the government for promoting division, corruption, and serving foreign interests at the expense of national development.

“How do you develop the country when the entire ruling class is guilty of theft, corruption, wastage, politics of division, and enslavement by foreign interests? Lying requires intelligence, which is lacking in these sycophantic utterances,” Mutunga remarked, condemning the government’s approach to governance.

Murkomen remains confident in President Ruto’s leadership, urging Kenyans to unite and focus on the country’s long-term growth.
