Man Struck by Car in Ruto’s Motorcade Died from Severe Body Injuries – Autopsy
Edgar Charles Frederick, a 79-year-old British man, died from numerous bodily injuries after being hit by a vehicle in President William Ruto’s convoy, according to an autopsy.
The incident occurred on Thursday along Ngong Road, and Frederick was killed instantly in what was described as a hit-and-run.
The autopsy, conducted at Lee Funeral Home with his Kenyan-resident family present, found severe head and chest trauma. “The head and chest were completely crushed. It is possible he was run over by a vehicle given his injuries with crushed ribs,” stated the pathologist.
Frederick was visiting his sister and nephew in Nairobi when he attempted to cross the road near Adams Arcade and was struck.
Witnesses reported that Frederick was unaware of the traffic officer’s warnings and road-clearing efforts.
Police spokesperson Michael Muchiri confirmed that Frederick was in Nairobi visiting relatives.
Police have stated that the driver, who did not stop after the collision, will face court charges following an investigation.
The vehicle involved has been identified as belonging to the Nairobi Regional Commissioner’s office and is now in police custody for examination, Muchiri said.
“The driver of government motor vehicle attached to Nairobi Regional Coordinator’s office is out on cash bail awaiting to be arraigned in court,” he said.
The vehicle was part of the president’s motorcade, speeding towards Kibera during the president’s fourth day of a Nairobi tour, when the accident happened on Thursday, March 13. Frederick was crossing at a zebra crossing, seemingly unaware of the oncoming vehicles.
The British High Commission in Nairobi has been notified of the incident, according to police.
A spokesperson for the UK High Commission said, “officials were aware of the reports and were seeking more information.”
