Man Allegedly Murders 3-Year-Old Son Over Fight With Wife
A domestic dispute in Wich-Lum, Siaya County, has taken a horrifying turn after a three-year-old boy was found dead under suspicious circumstances.
The child, identified as Ian Odeny, was discovered lifeless in a thicket at Pap-Kado area on Saturday evening. Authorities believe he was murdered by his father, Kennedy Omondi, following a heated disagreement with his wife the night before.
Omondi, a 42-year-old fisherman based at Wich-Lum beach, reportedly engaged in a domestic altercation with his wife, Lilian Anyango, on Friday night. During the confrontation, he allegedly vanished with their son. This disappearance raised immediate concern among locals, who feared for the child’s safety.
Speaking on the incident, Edwin Juma, the Assistant Chief of Nyaguda sub-location, confirmed that the conflict between the couple had escalated into violence. “After the fight, the man left with the child. Unfortunately, the young boy was found dead the next day,” Juma stated.
The discovery of the child’s body in the dense thickets has left the community in shock. Residents are grappling with the tragedy, as many try to come to terms with the suspected infanticide.
Local police officers swiftly responded to the distressing scene, recovering the body and transferring it to Bondo Sub-County Hospital Mortuary. A postmortem is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, the suspect, Kennedy Omondi, remains at large. Authorities have intensified the manhunt for him, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) taking over the case.
According to Juma, DCI officers are working tirelessly to establish the circumstances that led to the child’s death and to apprehend the suspect as soon as possible. The investigation aims to uncover any premeditation or psychological factors that may have contributed to the alleged act.
The incident has sparked widespread concern across Siaya County, with residents calling for justice for young Ian. Many have condemned the act, urging authorities to ensure the suspect is brought to book.
Domestic violence cases have been on the rise in the region, prompting calls for increased awareness and support structures for affected families. Community leaders are now emphasizing the need for conflict resolution strategies and mental health support to prevent such tragic outcomes in the future.
As investigations continue, the family is left mourning the loss of a young life cut short in the most heartbreaking of circumstances. The nation watches closely, hoping for swift justice and a resolution to this painful case.
