Man Allegedly Kills Father with Machete after Dispute over Missing Pig
A once peaceful village in Shilalyo, Shinyalu, is now consumed by grief following a horrific family tragedy. A 25-year-old man, Sammy, is accused of brutally killing his father, 49-year-old Kizito Hamas, in a violent confrontation that escalated over a dispute involving a dead pig.
The harrowing incident took place when Kizito attempted to mediate a disagreement between Sammy and other family members regarding the missing animal.
As the argument intensified, things spiraled out of control. According to Kizito’s mother, Debla Khasiala, Sammy turned on his father with a panga, launching a vicious attack.
Recalling the chilling moment, Khasiala said, “I saw Kizito fall while running quickly, and his son Sammy was striking him with a machete. He completely cut his neck, head, and hand.” Her tearful testimony painted a grim picture of the events that unfolded, leaving neighbors and family members in shock.
Kizito’s brother, Maina Isalambo, echoed the disbelief of the community and linked the violent outburst to Sammy’s involvement with drugs. “You know, young people these days smoke bhang or something, then he came here causing trouble and ended up attacking his own father. By the time we arrived, he had already killed his father,” he recounted. Isalambo further explained that the family had no knowledge of Sammy’s whereabouts, stating, “We have nothing more to say; we don’t even know where he is now.”
Following the murder, Sammy fled the scene, leaving the community in fear and disbelief. Local police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, with the hope of bringing him to justice. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Sammy’s whereabouts to come forward.
The body of the late Kizito Hamas has been moved to the Kakamega Referral Hospital for post-mortem as investigations continue.
The village, still reeling from the tragedy, is left grappling with the unimaginable loss of a father at the hands of his son.
