Leadership Tensions: President Ruto Also Removed from State House WhatsApp Group
In a surprising revelation during the latest episode of Citizen TV’s News Gang, journalist Sam Gituku confirmed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was not the only high-profile figure removed from the State House WhatsApp diary group.
In fact, it appears that even President William Ruto, along with several senior officials, found themselves expelled from the exclusive forum.
Gituku made these statements after reviewing the situation surrounding the now-infamous WhatsApp group, which has become a topic of intense discussion following Gachagua’s public comments. “I can confirm here that removals happened. It appears that everybody who was a member of that group, based on what you can see, including the president, was removed,” Gituku declared, leaving viewers intrigued about the implications of such high-level exclusions.
The controversy escalated when Gachagua, in an interview last Friday, expressed his dismay over the removals. He stated, “We have a WhatsApp group diary for the President where I’m there; my Chief of Staff is there, and all his issues are there, so we align. About a week ago, we were removed from that diary, so we are not able to follow exactly what is going on; we are unable to align.”
The Deputy President described the situation as a mischievous act intended to undermine his position.
“Sometimes they want me to get late so that it appears disrespectful,” he lamented, calling for unity among the people around the presidency. “I want to ask the people who work around the presidency not to create conflict between the President and me. I’m the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya elected by the people and the Principal Assistant,” he emphasized.
While Gituku affirmed the authenticity of the information circulating about the removals, he left an important question unanswered: whether a new group had been formed in the wake of these removals or if the existing group would reconvene. This uncertainty adds to the speculation surrounding the internal dynamics of Ruto’s administration.
Further complicating matters, Dennis Itumbi, Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Office of the President, took to social media to provide his own commentary. He shared a screenshot of the group, confirming Gachagua’s removal but adding that Ruto had been the first to be expelled.
“Yes, the Diary group was deleted. What DP @rigathi fails to mention is that the President was removed even before him, and the group was permanently deleted due to the highly classified documents being shared in WhatsApp groups,” Itumbi noted, hinting at deeper issues within the communication channels of the State House.
As this story continues to unfold, questions linger about the future of communication within Kenya’s leadership and the implications of these removals on the working relationship between the Deputy President and the President.
