Kisumu Tragedy: Man Stabs Former Lover After She Chooses Man
Police in Kisumu East have launched an intense search for a man who violently attacked his former lover in a jealous rage.
A 24-year-old woman is fighting for her life after a brutal assault by her ex-boyfriend, identified as Sebi Obonyo. The incident, which occurred on Friday evening, has left the Nyakbong’ village of Kamjulu in shock and prompted a full-blown manhunt by local authorities.
The brutal Kisumu stabbing, according to reports from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), unfolded around 4:45 p.m. when Obonyo stormed into the home of the woman’s current boyfriend. There, he found his former partner and launched a vicious attack, stabbing her twice—once in the chest and once in the ear—with a sharp object.
The woman screamed in agony, drawing the attention of nearby residents who rushed to the scene. Their quick intervention forced Obonyo to flee, vanishing before he could be apprehended.
Residents acted swiftly and rushed the victim to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital. She arrived in critical condition but is currently undergoing treatment and showing signs of recovery, hospital sources confirmed.
According to early investigations, the motive behind the violent outburst appears to be jealousy. Obonyo was reportedly enraged after his former girlfriend left him for another man—a relationship decision he allegedly could not accept.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has since initiated a widespread operation to track down Obonyo, who remains at large. Police have called on the public to remain vigilant and share any information that could lead to his arrest.
“This was a senseless and cruel act of violence driven by jealousy,” said a police officer involved in the investigation. “We are doing everything possible to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice is served.”
Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of Obonyo’s whereabouts to come forward. They emphasized the importance of community cooperation in helping curb gender-based violence, which continues to affect lives across the country.
This disturbing attack has reignited conversations on the need for mental health support and emotional management in relationships, particularly among youth. Community leaders have also condemned the attack, calling for stricter measures against perpetrators of domestic violence.
As the manhunt continues, the community of Kamjulu remains on edge, hoping for swift justice and a full recovery for the young woman.
