Kindiki’s Cryptic Warning to Mt. Kenya Senators Before Gachagua’s Ouster
Nakuru Senator Tabitha Keroche has shed light on the behind-the-scenes tensions leading up to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment trial, revealing crucial details about meetings with both President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.
Speaking to Inooro TV, Senator Keroche described a series of private meetings held with key figures in the government ahead of the pivotal Senate impeachment vote. According to Keroche, Gachagua had earlier reached out to Senators from the Mt. Kenya region, inviting them to a closed-door meeting as part of an effort to rally support before the trial.
However, as the political temperature heated up, President Ruto personally intervened, summoning select Senators to address the escalating feud with his deputy.
“I remember my meeting was on Tuesday the other week,” Keroche said. “My meeting lasted two hours, and no one else was there. I know even for my colleagues, they were summoned privately.” The private nature of these meetings raised eyebrows, hinting at the intensity of the political maneuvering behind the scenes.
Keroche revealed that she, alongside Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, spent hours with the President, discussing the strained relationship between Ruto and Gachagua.
After these discussions, the Senators were further summoned by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, who delivered a warning about the gravity of their upcoming decisions.
“We were also summoned by the security CS although some of my colleagues did not attend,” Keroche disclosed. Kindiki’s message was clear: the Senators needed to carefully weigh their options before casting their votes, as the political consequences could be significant.
“He confirmed the rift and told us he was not asking us to choose sides but we needed to do so on our own. He added some decisions would bring consequences. But everyone had to make their own decision,” Keroche recalled.
The meetings have sparked debate over the pressure exerted on Senators ahead of the crucial impeachment trial, with Kindiki’s veiled warning suggesting that some political decisions may come with far-reaching ramifications.
