Kindiki Reveals Why Rigathi Gachagua Never Officially Handed Over Office after Impeachment
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has shed light on the circumstances surrounding his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua’s departure from office.
During a media roundtable interview on Thursday, December 19, Kindiki emphasized that his relationship with Gachagua remains amicable despite the latter’s impeachment.
“My relationship with former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua is as it was before. We are good friends; I have no reason to complain,” Kindiki remarked, reinforcing the continued friendship between the two politicians.
One significant revelation from the interview was that Gachagua did not officially hand over his duties after his impeachment. Kindiki attributed this to Gachagua’s ongoing court case related to his impeachment.
“There was no official handover because the former DP is in court. You wouldn’t expect him to hand over while still in court,” he explained.
Kindiki also defended the integrity of the impeachment process, suggesting that it was conducted properly. He stated, “I have no regret for occupying this space (being deputy president).
The process involved three arms of government: the Executive, Parliament, and the Judiciary. I see no problem with the process and if there is, there is a way to remedy.”
The deputy president’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about the legality and fairness of Gachagua’s impeachment.
However, Kindiki’s stance indicates confidence in the processes that led to his assumption of the deputy presidency.
