Kindiki Opens Up About Friendship with Gachagua After Impeachment
In his first public comments since his appointment, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has addressed his relationship with his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during a media roundtable on Thursday, Kindiki affirmed that their relationship remains unchanged.
“Our relationship is the same as it was. We’re good people, good friends,” Kindiki stated, emphasizing the stability of their friendship despite the political transition.
When questioned about lessons learned from Gachagua’s term, Kindiki was reluctant to engage in comparisons. “Allow me not to discuss my brother Rigathi Gachagua. It is wrong to start comparing myself with the person who occupied this office,” he said.
Addressing the legality of Gachagua’s impeachment, Kindiki expressed confidence in the process, which he noted involved all three arms of government: the Executive, Parliament, and the Judiciary.
“The process involved three arms of government the Executive, Parliament and the Judiciary. I see no problem with the process and if there is there is a way to remedy,” he assured.
Kindiki also dismissed any notion of regret over his new role, stating, “I have no regret for occupying this space (being Deputy President).”
President William Ruto appointed Kindiki following Gachagua’s impeachment, citing Kindiki’s dedication and patriotism. Ruto praised Kindiki as a tireless public servant committed to national cohesion and unity.
Kindiki was sworn in as Kenya’s third Deputy President under the new Constitution, following his tenure as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.
