Kimani Ichung’wah Shuts Down Speculation of Replacing Kindiki as Interior CS
Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, has firmly dismissed reports suggesting that he is set to replace Kithure Kindiki as the next Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary.
Speaking in Rabai, Kilifi County, on Monday, October 21, the Kikuyu MP addressed the circulating rumors, asserting that he is committed to his current roles and not interested in any Cabinet position within President William Ruto’s administration.
“I have heard there are many things that have been said here, one of the politicians has suggested that I should become the Interior CS. But I want to say that I have a job and I don’t want people to get confused,” Ichung’wah remarked, expressing his contentment with his role as a lawmaker and Majority Leader.
Ichung’wah emphasized that his focus remains on fulfilling the mandate given to him by his constituents and fellow MPs in the National Assembly. He dismissed any claims of him seeking the Interior CS position as mere speculation meant to cause unnecessary confusion.
“I do not need the job of a minister. I have a job that I was given by Kikuyu constituents, and these MPs also gave me a task in the National Assembly. I want to continue with this job so that we can bring development in Rabai and other parts of the country,” he added.
Ichung’wah further addressed the recent political events surrounding the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He clarified that the impeachment motion, which he led, was not motivated by personal vendetta but by the need to serve the country’s best interests.
“You saw I led the impeachment motion in the National Assembly. I want to commend all the MPs; we did not do that because we hate an individual, we did it because we love the people of Kenya,” Ichung’wah stated.
The Kikuyu MP was compelled to clarify his position after a politician proposed that he should take up the Interior CS post, following Kithure Kindiki’s nomination as Deputy President. Kindiki’s nomination on October 18 followed the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua by a majority Senate vote.
However, Gachagua’s legal team has since moved to challenge the decision in court, temporarily halting Kindiki’s swearing-in as Deputy President.
