Kenyan Ex-Marine Dies Alone in US — Heartbroken Mum Drops Dead Days Later in Kenya
A family is grappling with an unimaginable loss after a man passed away alone in the United States, and just days later, his mother, consumed by sorrow, collapsed and died in Kenya.
Reports indicate that Patrick Kariuki, a Kenyan living in Azusa, Los Angeles County, who was a former US Marine and a father of four, tragically took his own life.
The news of his death first emerged from Wanderlust, who were seeking any Kenyans who might recognize him and could assist in identifying him.
According to the reports, Kariuki had been battling a Grade 4 brain tumor, which left him struggling with memory loss, confusion, and severe pain.
In his final days, Patrick found himself enveloped in solitude and silence. He had experienced the heart-wrenching loss of his first wife in 2017, with whom he had three children. Now grown, his kids were each forging their own paths in life.
Later, he married a Filipino woman, and together they welcomed a daughter. However, the details of their separation remain murky, and she was absent from his life at the time of his passing.

The weight of these losses, along with his illness, took a heavy toll on Patrick. He left behind a heartfelt note for his only son, Lawrence, and his youngest daughter, who was just a toddler.
Authorities discovered his body, and they found that his phone held just one contact—Lawrence, with whom he had maintained occasional communication. Sadly, no one had come forward to claim his body, leading the authorities to proceed with cremation until Lawrence arrived on the scene.
Even though he called Las Vegas home, Lawrence maintained a tight-knit relationship with his father. So, when he received the heartbreaking news of his father’s passing, he made sure that his dad would be laid to rest with the dignity he deserved.
The family’s sorrow only grew when Kariuki’s mother passed away just days later. She had been welcoming mourners who came to offer their condolences when she suddenly collapsed.
Kariuki’s tragic death in the US comes on the heels of another recent loss: a Kenyan named Evans Kibiwott Kangogo, who was discovered dead in his Seattle apartment. His colleagues became concerned when he missed work for three days in a row, which was completely out of character for him.
