Kenya Airways (KQ) has taken a major step in its expansion efforts by adding a Boeing 737-800 to its fleet. The aircraft, which can accommodate 170 passengers, brings the airline’s total number of planes to 35 as part of its ongoing growth strategy.

How the New Boeing Aircraft Benefits Kenya Airways

This latest addition highlights KQ’s dedication to increasing passenger capacity, improving operational efficiency, and catering to the rising demand for air travel across its network.

The newly acquired aircraft, sourced from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), will immediately boost available seats, providing customers with more flexibility and travel options.

Kenya Airways Group Managing Director & CEO, Allan Kilavuka, emphasized that the expansion aligns with the airline’s long-term growth strategy and its commitment to Project Kifaru 2, a turnaround initiative aimed at ensuring sustainable operations.

“The addition of this B737-800 marks a pivotal moment in our fleet expansion journey. It will increase our seat capacity and is a demonstration of our ability to adapt and grow in a challenging operating environment, even as the global aviation industry faces challenges in aircraft availability,” said Kilavuka.

He further explained that the airline is actively working to enhance its connectivity and service quality to passengers.

The expansion comes at a crucial time as KQ continues to explore partnerships with top aircraft manufacturers and leasing firms to further grow its fleet. The airline is currently in advanced discussions to secure additional aircraft, focusing on both narrow and wide-body models that offer improved seat capacity and operational efficiency.

“We are committed to building a robust and modern fleet that supports our vision for growth. The acquisition of the B737-800 aircraft from DAE is a great milestone in our long-term partnership and solidifies our relationship as we work together in the future.
It is also a clear signal to the aviation industry that Kenya Airways is a reliable and forward-thinking partner. We invite other partners to join us on this journey as we expand our operations and strengthen our position in the global aviation market,”
Kilavuka stated.

Kenya Airways’ ability to strategically expand its fleet despite global challenges in aircraft availability highlights its resilience and determination to grow. The airline remains confident that its strong market presence and reputation as a leading African carrier will continue attracting global aviation partners.
