KAA Clarifies Fire Incident at JKIA’s Parking Garage
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has addressed public concerns following a fire incident that broke out at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) parking garage on Tuesday, November 19.
The incident, which occurred on level 1 of the facility, involved a single vehicle but did not disrupt operations at the busy international hub.
In a statement, KAA assured passengers and stakeholders that the situation was swiftly managed by the airport’s emergency response teams.
“The authority’s fire and rescue teams responded promptly and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing further damage or escalation. No other vehicles were damaged. Operations at JKIA remain normal with no disruptions,” read part of the statement.
KAA also emphasized its commitment to safety and security, reassuring passengers that such incidents are taken seriously. “We want to assure all passengers, airport users, and stakeholders that their safety and security remain our top priority. Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire,” the authority stated.
The incident has sparked significant attention online, with mixed reactions from Kenyans. Social media users raised questions and offered speculations about the possible cause of the fire.
Twitter user @Hakeenah questioned, “What are you trying to distract us from?” while @geofrey_wageni speculated, “The cause of the fire might be the explosion of the car’s lithium batteries due to overcharging if the car is a hybrid.”
Another netizen, @Eng_Einstein, expressed skepticism and called for thorough investigations, saying, “We know this script so well. Ensure DCI investigates this properly. I suspect someone is trying to force Adani.”
While the incident remains under investigation, KAA’s swift response has reassured passengers and airport users, ensuring that normalcy was quickly restored at East Africa’s busiest airport.
