Jeremiah Kioni Confirms Mt. Kenya’s Support for Kalonzo in 2027 Elections
Jubilee Party Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, has thrown his weight behind Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the 2027 presidential election, a significant political endorsement that could reshape the race to State House.
Kioni revealed that leaders from the Gikuyu, Embu, and Meru (GEMA) communities, key voting blocs in the Mt. Kenya region, are aligning to support Kalonzo’s candidacy.
He indicated that these leaders had been conducting behind-the-scenes consultations aimed at forging a broad alliance with the Kamba community, with Kalonzo at the forefront.
Speaking during a political event, Kioni outlined that the former Vice President had earned the trust of the Mt. Kenya region, thanks to his longstanding political history with them, most notably during the 2007 post-election period. Kioni reminded the public of how Kalonzo stood by the Mt. Kenya region when others sought to undermine its leadership.
“When ODM party leader Raila Odinga ganged up with Ruto in 2007 to unseat President Mwai Kibaki, it was Kalonzo Musyoka who stood with Mount Kenya and the Kibaki presidency,” Kioni emphasized. This historical allegiance, according to Kioni, places Kalonzo in a favorable position as a leader who can unite and stabilize the country.
He further accused President William Ruto and his administration of failing to honor the support they received from Mt. Kenya in the previous election, citing instances of political persecution of Mt. Kenya leaders. Kioni described this as a betrayal, asserting that Kalonzo, in contrast, has been a consistent and reliable partner to the region.
“It is these and many other reasons we feel that this country deserves a leader who is calm and who can foster true national unity and reconciliation, which is why we are rooting for Musyoka, your son,” Kioni concluded passionately.
With Mt. Kenya’s political backing up for grabs, Kioni’s endorsement signals a significant shift in the country’s political landscape, potentially positioning Kalonzo as a key contender in the 2027 race.
