In a recent survey conducted by Infotrak, a leading research and consulting firm, Kenyans have voiced their top five grievances with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.

The survey, which sampled 2,400 respondents from across the country, identified the high cost of living as the most pressing issue, with 51% of participants highlighting it as a critical concern.

Unemployment follows closely, with 36% of Kenyans expressing frustration over the lack of job opportunities. Corruption remains a significant problem, cited by 24% of respondents as a major issue that needs to be addressed.

Additionally, overtaxation and the challenges associated with the new Social Health Authority were highlighted by 23% of the participants.

Other concerns mentioned include inadequate infrastructure and the overall affordability of healthcare, which 13% of respondents noted.

Affordable education and the cost of doing business were issues for 12%, while 9% of respondents pointed out the problem of extrajudicial killings.

These findings come at a challenging time for President Ruto, who is working to counter criticism from political adversaries. During the Jamhuri Day celebrations, Ruto condemned the spread of fake news and disinformation, urging for a balanced discourse based on facts.

“I have no problem with discourse, criticism, and alternative proposals. In fact, I welcome them and listen to feedback in order to learn, improve, and become better. However, much of what is presented as fact is falsehood, and much opposition stems from misrepresentation and outright disinformation,” Ruto stated on December 12th.

Addressing the transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to Taifa Care, President Ruto reassured the public of the government’s progress despite technological and operational challenges. Speaking at the 11th National and County Governments Coordinating Summit on December 16th, he remarked, “I can see progress; the naysayers are becoming fewer.”

Ruto’s primary challenge now is to shift public perception in his favour, as surveys reveal a prevailing apprehension among Kenyans regarding his administration.

The Infotrak survey also highlighted a significant distrust in the electoral process, with many Kenyans believing the government interferes with elections.
